Pacific Rim is a 2013 American science fiction action film directed by Guillermo del Toro. It pits humanity's giant robots, Jaegers, against monstrous Kaiju from the Pacific Ocean.

What it is

The film is set in a near-future world where Kaiju emerge from a breach beneath the Pacific Ocean to devastate coastal cities. Humanity fights back by creating Jaegers, enormous piloted robots linked by a mental connection called the Drift. The story was originally created for the screen by Travis Beacham.

Production and Reception

Directed by Guillermo del Toro and co-written by del Toro, Beacham, and Drew Pearce, the film was produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It received generally positive reviews, praised for its visual effects and large-scale action, though it performed better internationally than in North America.

Franchise
