Mount Rushmore National Memorial depicts George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The sculpture was conceived by South Dakota historian Doane Robinson in 1923 to draw tourists, and was designed and led by artist Gutzon Borglum, with his son Lincoln Borglum finishing the work after his death.
