Mohamed Lachemi is a Canadian academic administrator and civil engineering professor. He has served as president and vice-chancellor of Toronto Metropolitan University since 2016.

Career

Lachemi joined Toronto Metropolitan University in 1998 as a professor of civil engineering. He later served as dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science and as provost and vice-president, academic. He became president and vice-chancellor in 2016, with his term extended to the end of 2026.

Research and scholarship

Lachemi is recognized for work on sustainable and high-performance concrete, including self-healing concrete. He held a Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Construction from 2002 to 2010 and has authored over 240 publications with more than $3 million in external research funding.

Leadership and honours

Under his leadership, TMU developed new schools in law and medicine and launched the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst. His honours include appointment to the Order of Ontario in 2022.
