Larry Page is an American computer scientist and entrepreneur best known as the co-founder of Google. He co-created the PageRank algorithm and led Google and its parent company Alphabet before stepping back from executive roles in 2019.

Early life and education

Born in 1973 in East Lansing, Michigan, Page studied computer engineering at the University of Michigan and later pursued graduate studies at Stanford University. At Stanford, he met Sergey Brin, and their collaboration led to the creation of Google.

Google and PageRank

Page and Brin developed PageRank, an algorithm that ranked web pages by analysing links between them. This research project became Google, launched in 1998, and grew into a dominant internet search service used worldwide, including in Canada.

Leadership at Google and Alphabet

Page served as Google's first CEO from 1997 to 2001 and again from 2011 to 2015. In 2015, he became CEO of Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company, before leaving executive management in 2019. He remains a board member and controlling shareholder of Alphabet.
